Girlfriends

Today I finished up a week of training and was looking forward to going to my son's house where I could see my grandchildren. Instead of driving right there, I stopped off in Bloomsburg to take advantage of an opportunity to share a meal with two amazing women. Thanks, Jill and Eckie.

In this age of total busyness, iPads, cell phones, Facebook, overflowing email boxes, etc., it is so easy to get caught up in information and superficial communications, that we forget what is truly important.

The older I become (I turn 51 in one week and a day), I realize just how truly short life is. I am learning to eliminate the energy drainers from my life and only collect those who enjoy an equal give and take relationship.

I was out with some friends a few weeks ago. They were all women of various ages and backgrounds. The one thing they all had in common was a connection to me. One of the younger women said to me, "You have such amazing friends." I responded by saying, "That's because I only collect amazing people in my life." I don't want to spend my time with energy vampires.

So there are two sides of that coin–not spending time with people who take more than their share but also remembering to spend time with the people who matter.

It's too easy to get caught up in the hussel and bustle of daily living that we forget to take the time to spend with the people who nourish us. Last night three old friends who had probably met over 15 years ago, spent some wonderful time together. It wouldn't have happened without someone initiating the meeting and the other two agreeing to take time from their schedules to slow day and just "be" with each other. I highly recommend it.

When was the last time you spent quality time with your girlfriends? What do you do with the energy vampires in your life?
