A Question I’m Asked Often
When I tell people what I do, I’m often asked, “What exactly is Mental Freedom?”
People hear the phrase Mental Freedom in my introduction, through my speaking, coaching, writing, and on my website. While I can’t answer that question fully in a short article like this, I can offer some context—and point you to a place where the framework is explained in greater depth.
Why Mental Freedom® Exists
So many intelligent, capable people walk around experiencing unnecessary emotional suffering and feeling powerless because of the language they use and the stories they tell themselves.
Mental Freedom® is a practical, actionable framework for dealing with whatever life brings your way. It’s not therapy; most people don’t need therapy, and they aren’t broken. It’s not positive thinking, which often dismisses real experience. And it doesn’t bypass emotions. In fact, recognizing and understanding what you’re feeling is an essential part of moving forward.
How Mental Freedom® Shapes My Work
Mental Freedom® is much more than a concept or a process I use—it’s become the way I see the world. It’s a lens I work from.
It shows up in my coaching, my leadership work, my training and facilitation, and in conversations about relationships and personal growth. Over time, I’ve found that there isn’t a person who doesn’t want more clarity or a challenge that Mental Freedom® can’t help address.
What Mental Freedom® Is Not
Mental Freedom® isn’t about controlling your feelings; it’s about transforming them—from painful to neutral, or even positive. It’s not about blaming yourself; it’s about taking responsibility for your life and your choices. And it’s not about avoiding pain—it’s about finding the GLOW within it.
These distinctions matter professionally. Mental Freedom® is grounded in the belief that people can learn the skills they need to strengthen their relationships, build resilience, and respond more intentionally to life. This isn’t something you either have or don’t have—it’s something that can be learned and developed.
Where to Learn the Full Framework
For those of you who have been following my work for a while, I want you to know that Mental Freedom® now has its own home at https://mentalfreedom.net. All content related specifically to Mental Freedom® will live there going forward, rather than on the Olver International website.
At MentalFreedom.net, you can read the full definition of Mental Freedom®, learn about our Mental Freedom Experiences, register for our conference, and explore the blog—including a deeper introduction to the framework and its core principles.
If you’d like to explore Mental Freedom® more fully, I invite you to begin there.
What would change if you related differently to your thoughts, emotions, and choices?
